MEET BETSY AND KRIS

# About Us

Pizza Moto began in 2008 with a handmade wood-fired oven, a backyard wedding, and a group of restaurant cooks ambitious enough to think they could pull it off.

Founder David Sclarow built the original oven by hand to cook pizzas at Betsy’s wedding, and what started as a one-time labor of love quickly evolved into one of New York’s original wood-fired pizza catering companies. In the years that followed, Pizza Moto became known for bringing live-fire cooking to weddings, farms, breweries, backyards, and events throughout Brooklyn, the Hudson Valley, and the Catskills.

In 2015, Pizza Moto opened its restaurant at 338 Hamilton Avenue in Red Hook, Brooklyn. During the buildout, a massive turn-of-the-century oven was discovered hidden behind the walls of the space — a relic from Brooklyn’s industrial past that became the beating heart of the restaurant for nearly a decade. Beneath the BQE, Pizza Moto grew into far more than a pizza shop: it became a neighborhood gathering place built around fire, fermentation, hospitality, and community.

We were there for much of that journey ourselves.

We first met in 2001 as young cooks working in one of New York City’s toughest kitchens. Nearly 25 years later, we’re incredibly honored to carry Pizza Moto into its next chapter together.

While Dave created the foundation and spirit of Pizza Moto, our goal is to continue what made it special in the first place: thoughtful hospitality, handmade food, beautiful gatherings, and the kind of warmth that comes from cooking over real fire.

For us, Pizza Moto has always been about more than pizza.

It’s dough fermenting overnight.

It’s oak burning in the oven.

It’s cooks moving fast under string lights.

It’s weddings in open fields.

It’s crowded tables in Brooklyn.

It’s feeding people during some of the happiest moments of their lives.

We bring decades of experience in restaurants, events, and hospitality, but at its heart Pizza Moto still operates with the same spirit it started with back in 2008 — passionate cooks making honest food for people we’re genuinely excited to feed.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has supported Pizza Moto over the years, and incredibly excited for what comes next.

See you by the oven.
